The art of cuts and folds in STEMLand
-Soundhariya and Preethi
On 9th October 2025, as a part of STEMLand’s 10th birthday celebration, we set up an origami and kirigami table where children and adults explored the joy of folding, cutting, and creating with paper. The table soon became a space full of curiosity, teamwork, and creativity.
We began by drawing colorful patterns and designs on the paper templates. This step made each creation unique and filled with personal touch. Once our designs were ready, we started folding and assembling them into different models. We made several exciting models like the Yin-Yang ball, jumping frog, icosahedron, flextangle, and triskele globe.
Each model had something special to teach us. The Yin-Yang ball showed balance. The frog made everyone smile when it jumped with a press. The icosahedron revealed the beauty of 3D geometry. The flextangle amazed everyone with its continuous twisting motion and patterns. And the triskele globe, with its interlocking curved shapes, showed how simple folds could create something elegant and spherical.
What made the experience truly special was how people of all ages joined in learning, helping, and enjoying the process together. It wasn’t just about making paper models, but about discovering creativity, patience, and joy through hands-on learning.
The table was colorful, lively, and full of laughter. For us, it was a reminder that learning can be both playful and artis.

Reflection:
Soundhariya:
My name is Soundhariya. I stand for courage for myself and others. During our 10th Stemland birthday, I taught the children kirigami and origami craft. The children were happy and excited to make new things. They learned how to fold and cut paper in different patterns. I saw them working with focus and helping each other. They felt proud when they made something beautiful. I understood that craft work helps children to be patient, careful, and creative. It also makes learning fun.
Preethi:
My name is Preethi. I stand for courage and kindness for myself and others. When I held the table for kirigami and origami art, I learned how much patience and clarity it takes to teach step by step. I understood that everyone learns at a different pace, and I needed to guide them gently while keeping the energy of the space joyful. It helped me improve my communication and observation skills — noticing where someone was stuck and helping them find their way. I also felt happy seeing how creative and focused the children became once they understood the folds. This experience reminded me that art is not just about making something beautiful, but also about connecting, sharing, and learning together.
